HERITAGE CANTONESE CHILLI BISCUITS

(OUT OF STOCK) SGD$10/pack of 5

First debuted on In Search Of Heat on Channel News Asia (CNA).

Our Cantonese Chilli Biscuits were featured in CNAInsider "In Search Of Heat" series and are a heritage food once enjoyed by the Ma Jie women from Shuntak, who worked as domestic helpers in Singapore from 1930s–1970s. Our chilli biscuit recipe, modified to have more heat, was originally from a aunt of Cantonese opera teacher laushi Wilfred Yeong, introduced to us by Lynn Wong Yuqing during the filming of the series. Shuntak (Shunde), located in Canton China, is one of six UNESCO’s Cities of Gastronomy.

Ingredients include fermented black beans, garlic and chilli. Laat Ziu Beng can be enjoyed in a savoury, spicy dipping sauce for hot pot and steamboat, or as seasoning for steamed or stir-fried dishes.

Quick Easy Dipping Sauce:
Break and mash 1 chilli biscuit into bits. Add 2 TBSP soya sauce and 2 TBSP sesame oil. Mix and let the biscuit dissolve into the sauce for 1 hour. Enjoy!
